Catholic Educators’ Conference:
Don’t forget that there is NO SCHOOL ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 16 AND FRIDAY FEBRUARY 17, as the school staff will be attending the Catholic Educators’ Conference.

Parent Evening:
On Tuesday, February 28 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Parish Centre, ICS will be hosting a presentation by Jesse Miller of Mediated Reality (www.mediatedreality.com).  Jesse will speak to parents on social media awareness, and the impact that this new reality has on our students.  His presentation to the intermediate students last year was well received, and it promises to be an interesting and informative night.  Please RSVP to the school office (604-224-5012) if you plan to attend.

Gift Card Fundraiser:
With $172,000 raised over the years, the gift card fundraiser has made an excellent contribution towards paying off the Parish Centre/Gym that our children enjoy each day.  Starting next month, we will be simplifying this fundraiser to include only Stongs and Shoppers Drug Mart.  So, if you have favorites from our extensive list, please stock up this month.  If you already have IGA or Esso cards, these will continue to be ‘re-loadable’ and the parish will continue to receive a percentage of these sales.  Standing orders that contain Stongs and Shoppers Drug Mart cards will continue to be filled, unless we hear from you.  Please look for the order sheet in your child’s backpack today.  Orders must be returned by Thursday February 23rd to the school or parish office.  Many thanks for your support.  Please contact Laura Soeller with any questions at 604-736-5254.

Coats for Kids:
As a result of the generosity of the ICS community, we will be sending the Knights of Columbus a cheque for $295 to purchase coats for children in need.  Thank you to all who made a donation on our dress down day!

Dress Down Day Tomorrow

Don’t forget that tomorrow is a Dress Down Day.  Students may wear Valentine colours (red, pink, purple, white) and are asked to bring a loonie or toonie to support Coats for Kids.

Absentee Reminder

If your child has been away in January and you have not yet submitted a note with the reason, please do so as soon as possible.
Notes can be submitted in whichever way is most convenient for you:
·    Send an email to the office and/or teacher- office-ics@shaw.ca
·    Complete the website absentee form- click here
·    Send a written note to the office or your child’s teacher with your child’s name, grade, date absent, reason and your signature
We require a note for half or full day absences.
On a side note; if you are removing your child from school for only a portion of the day, please use our new ‘Sign Out Book” that can be found in the office. This book can also be used if someone different is picking up your child or if you are picking your child up early.

LAST CHANCE – HOT LUNCH ORDERS

The deadline to place your child’s order for next week’s hot lunch is Wednesday, January 25, 2012.

To place your order
·    Go to www.breadgardenkidseat.com
·    Click the NEW PARENT ACCOUNT SIGN UP button (left side of the home page.)
·    First you will need to open an account if you have not done so before. Submit your information.  Please sign up your account using the parent’s name.
·    IMPORTANT: You will be asked to “Add Students to your Account.” Be sure to create a profile for each of your children including their grade.  You will need to have students in your account before you will be able to access the menu.
·    Note your passwords for future orders – your email address will become your USERNAME. You will create your own password.
·    Once you have signed up, you are ready to place your orders for each date offered.
·    Click on “Place Order.”  The website will guide you.  Have your credit card ready for payment.
·    The next time you wish to place orders your account will be ready to go! Simply login to PARENT LOGIN, use your passwords and “Place Order.”
·    Helpful Tip!  To determine if you have already placed an order for a particular date or to review your orders, click on “ORDER HISTORY” in the left hand column.

Snow Reminders

With snow in the forecast for this week, please ensure that your child is dressed for the weather.  Students should wear boots to school and bring their school shoes to change into once inside.  Students are also encouraged to pack an extra pair of socks in case theirs get wet.

If school is cancelled because of snow, it will be posted on our website under “Breaking News” by 6:30 a.m.  We will also ask CKNW, News 1130 and Global TV to announce the closure.

Information for This Week

13 December 2011

Advent Paraliturgy:
The Advent Paraliturgy is this Thursday, December 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the church.  Students are asked to be in the classroom at 6:15 (choir members will meet Mr. Lerner in the Music room at that time).  All students except for those in Grade 1 should be in full uniform.  At the end of the evening, students will return to the classrooms to be picked up.

Last Day of School:
Friday, December 16 will be a non-uniform day for the students, who may wear Christmas colours, hats, etc.  Please remember that students will be dismissed at 12:00 noon on that day.

Uniforms:
The Christmas holidays are a good time to check your child’s uniform pieces for size, fading, etc.  Keep your eyes open while shopping, as you may be able to find the items you need.  Several students still do not have solid black shoes, as required by the dress code.  When buying navy pants, please remember to stay away from 100% cotton as the color fades significantly.  If you are in need of sweaters or gym strips, please contact Beth Cormack at 604-261-0376.

Christmas Mass:
All are invited to attend the family mass on Christmas Eve at Immaculate Conception Parish.  There will be a carol sing-a-long at 6:30 p.m., followed by mass at 7:00 p.m.  Volunteers are needed to serve apple cider and cookies after the mass, which should run until just past 8:00 p.m.  Anyone interested should contact Tim Mah at singoutloud@shaw.ca

Lost and Found:
Please be sure to check the Lost and Found this week for any missing belongings.  Anything that has not been claimed by Friday will be donated to charity.  Please remember that if you label your children’s clothing, it is easy for it to find its way back to its owner!

 

Bake Sale Friday

2.  All are welcome to the school Advent assembly Monday December 12th, 2011 but please note the time has been changed to 1:00 pm.

COMFORT KITS

Thank you to those who have sent your children’s comfort kits in event of an emergency. For those who have not, please bring them in to school as soon as possible.

Your children’s safety is the school’s top priority and the EP Committee members have been working in past months to complete the task. Please help us to help your children. Thank you.
