It’s not something we like to think about, but knowing your role in an emergency is necessary to mitigate panic and confusion and to keep our families safe.  ICS has a 39-page plan that is reviewed and updated yearly, which outlines what we do in case of an emergency.

Some components of the ICS-EPP are:

• Yearly risk assessment of the school’s building, equipment, and grounds and execution of these recommendations.
• Emergency Drills: several fire & earthquake classroom drills and one emergency release drill during the school year.
• Checklists & procedures for school staff and Emergency Response Team volunteers.

What you can do!

• Don’t call the school in case of an emergency to keep telephone lines open.
• Update your emergency contact information regularly.
• Prepare comfort kits & discuss them with your children.
• Have a Family Emergency Kit and discuss & practice your emergency plan with your family.
• Get your First Aid Certification.
• Volunteer to be on the Emergency Response Team.
• Volunteer to be on the ICS-EPP Committee.
