Playground Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY: This position provides assistance and supervision for children during lunch and/or assigned recesses to ensure a positive and safe environment.  This incumbent would work from 11:15am to 1:15pm Monday to Friday on school days for the 2017-18 school year. 

REPORTS TO: Principal or Designee


Perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned as necessary. 

1. Supervise students at lunchtime and/or playtime and maintain a harmonious safe atmosphere by encouraging peaceful resolution of conflicts. This includes:

a.    assessing playground for security/conditions of equipment and grounds and correcting where possible (i.e. clearing of snow/salting icy areas) and reporting concerns to principal
b.    assuming responsibility for setting up play equipment (i.e. tether ball) and/or cones to mark off unsafe areas (i.e. icy areas)
c.    responding to emergency situations (injured students, fights, etc) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns
d.    reporting disciplinary and other concerns to the principal and/or classroom teacher as appropriate
e.    ensuring students are orderly and acting appropriately
f.    organizing group games and activities as needed
g.    directing movement of students to and from playground and classrooms in a safe and organized manner

2.    During lunch interact with students to maintain order and provide assistance when needed including:

a.    Circulating through assigned classrooms to help students by providing assistance with their lunches (i.e. opening packages of food etc)
b.    Assisting in encouraging children to clean up after themselves in classroom or helping clean up spills as needed
c.    Supporting delivery of food on hot lunch days

3.    Overall responsibilities:

a.    Complying with applicable laws, rules and regulations
b.    Professionally representing the school in interactions with parents, community, staff and students
c.    Reporting safety, sanitary and fire hazards immediately to principal or designee

SALARY: $20-$22 per hour, based on qualifications and experience
